Medical Malpractice Kills Texas Man

December 6, 2001

The family of a Texas man who died as a result of medical malpractice was recently awarded $30 million by a Dallas jury. Robert Hogue Jr., then 52, died in 1998 after doctors at The Medical Center of Las Colinas failed to provide proper treatment for his heart condition.

On the morning of March 9, Hogue went to the Las Colinas emergency room complaining of respiratory problems. Seven hours later it was determined that his ailments required invasive heart surgery, yet the Las Colinas facility was not equipped to handle such a procedure. Doctors then decided to transfer Hogue to a hospital in Irving, Texas. Unfortunately, the delay of almost 12 hours led to Hogue's heart failure and subsequent death.

In the lawsuit, Hogue's family argued that The Medical Center of Las Colinas failed to provide adequate care in a timely manner and employed flawed policies, procedures, and practices.
