This week marks the beginning of the trial of an Iranian national who allegedly threatened to kill Americans while on board an Air Canada flight. Javid Naghani purportedly became infuriated after he was caught smoking in the plane's lavatory. Witnesses claim he then threatened to kill Americans if detained.
Informed of the threat, the pilot immediately returned to Los Angeles under military fighter jet escort. Naghani's attorney told the court that his client suffers from flight anxiety and that the flight crew "overreacted." Naghani faces ten years in prison if convicted.
