More than 29 people have suffered severe eye injuries, including blindness, because of deploying passenger side airbags in late model Nissan Altimas. An investigation has been launched in order to determine why such injuries occurred in the 1994 and 1995 model Altimas. There are approximately 325,000 of these models on the road today. Most of the injured passengers said they were wearing their seatbelts and were not sitting close to the dashboard when the airbags deployed. "In some of the cases, the eye injuries allegedly resulted in permanent partial or complete loss of vision," said an agency report. "Some of the front passengers allegedly suffered other injuries such as facial cuts, scrapes, bruises and fractures."
