According to the New York City Comptroller, over 135 "notice of claims" have been filed against the city stemming from the September 11 terrorist attacks. Officials say hundreds of additional claims are likely to be filed in the near future. Half of the claims are related to wrongful-death matters while dozens of others involve injuries sustained during cleanup and rescue efforts. Attorneys warn that legal actions against the city may take years to resolve and that by filing civil suits plaintiffs may be disqualified from the Federal government's victim compensation "superfund."
