Family Asks Columbine Judge to Reconsider Case

January 2, 2002

The controversy surrounding the Columbine tragedy continued this week when the family of a slain boy asked a judge to reconsider dismissing their case against the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and officer Dan O'Shea. The familt filed a motion claiming that O'Shea, and not Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, shot and killed Daniel Rohrbough as he was fleeing the school. Celine Marquez, a school administrator, says O'Shea told her days after the shooting that he may have killed an innocent student. According to the motion, the angle of Rohrbough's wound matches O'Shea's position when he fired his 9 mm weapon.

A Federal judge dismissed all but one Columbine wrongful-death lawsuit last month. Twelve students and one teacher were killed during the incident.
