A Florida woman whose reckless driving led to the death of a 14-year-old girl has settled a lawsuit with the girl's family. Carrie Brown died from a broken neck in August of 2000 when Mary Hill lost control of her 1996 BMW and slammed into a tree while speeding. Hill's daughter, Amy, was also killed in the fatal crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the car was traveling over seventy mph at the time of the accident. A third passenger, Zak Rockwell, survived the crash but suffered permanent injuries. Hill's insurance company agreed to a $2 million settlement with Carrie's parents. Rockwell's family settled for $1 million last year. Hill was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. She currently remains free on bail awaiting trial.
