The fourth trial involving Rezulin maker Warner-Lambert began last week as jurors listened to opening statements from attorneys representing the family of a sixty-eight year old woman who died while awaiting a liver transplant. The lawsuit claims that Warner-Lambert, now owned by Pfizer, is responsible for the woman's death because the company knowingly distributed the dangerous diabetes drug and lied about side effects.
The family of Monica George is seeking $10 million in compensatory damages as well as an undisclosed amount in punitive damages. Attorneys plan to argue that the company pushed the drug into production well before research on Rezulin-related side effects was completed.
