A New York man who filed suit after falling down a flight of stairs inside the Bell Atlantic building in the Bronx was recently awarded $1 million. James Gargano, a thirty-nine-year-old rigger, claimed that poor lighting and broken stairs caused his 1998 fall. Gargano suffered a broken foot and herniated disc. He was out of work for over two years. Jurors determined that Bell Atlantic and the building's maintenance contractor, Dynaserve Industries, were responsible for Gargano's injuries.
