Starbucks Coffee faces a $5 million lawsuit filed by a New York woman who suffered first-and second-degree burns from an exploding cappuccino machine. Dawn Samperisi, 36, claims permanent injuries in her hand have kept her unemployed. In addition, the former teacher's assistant alleges she can no longer drive a car due to her injuries.
The accident occurred in 1999 when Samperisi asked a store employee to demonstrate how the cappuccino machine worked. The employee incorrectly loaded coffee into the machine, causing the explosion. Samperisi's lawyers claim Starbucks was negligent for failing to properly train the employee.
