At a time when nursing home abuse and neglect is a growing problem for health regulators, it is no wonder that public officials are taking steps to make sure that America's elderly receive the proper treatment they deserve. For instance, a task force from the Florida attorney general's office recently released a study that recommended the installation of video surveillance systems in the rooms of nursing home residents.
Researchers with the task force say video equipment may help deter nursing facility abuses. According to the study, over 3,000 neglect and abuse allegations were reported last year alone. The video recommendation is facing criticism from nursing home industry lobbyists who claim homes will have a difficult time securing liability insurance if video systems are installed.
