Rent-A-Center, the nation's largest rent-to-own company, has settled two sex-discrimination lawsuits filed by more than 5,000 former female employees. The plaintiffs alleged that female Rent-A-Center workers were terminated or denied deserving promotions because of their gender. The lawsuits also accused the Texas-based chain of harassing and unfairly disciplining female employees for over four years. The women claimed Rent-A-Center forced many workers to resign and subjected them to meddlesome psychological tests. The two suits settled for $47 million.
