The California Court of Appeals rejected Ford Motor Company's bid Friday to dismiss a $290 million verdict extending from a 1999 Ford Bronco rollover case. Three members of a California family were killed in 1993 when their 1978 Ford Bronco rolled over outside of Modesto. Investigators determined that the vehicle's defective steel and fiberglass roof collapsed during the accident.
Ford argued that jurors had been unduly influenced by outside sources during the initial trial. The automaker plans to appeal the Fifth Appellate District Court decision.
