A racial discrimination lawsuit filed by thirteen New Jersey state troopers has been settled for $4 million. The lawsuit, which had been in process for nearly ten years, alleged that the officers were hazed and denied deserving promotions during their tenure with the department. Plaintiff attorneys filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 1993 and filed the suit in 1997 against the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety. The plaintiffs will split the settlement, which includes $1 million in attorney fees.
