The family of a teenager who drowned after passing out on the beach in Puget Sound settled a wrongful-death lawsuit against the state of Washington last week for $185,000. According to the complaint, 17-year-old Jonathan George Edwards was drinking alcohol purchased by an underage friend from a state-operated liquor store on February 18, 2000.
Authorities believe Edwards passed out on the beach later that evening and drowned when the tide came in. His body was found washed ashore the next morning. Edwards' family sued the state claiming the liquor store was negligent for selling alcohol to an underage customer.
