Drug court is an excellent option for those persons who are addicted to drugs and are currently facing jail time. It has changed the lives of many of its attendees. This intense program requires its members to follow directions and strict guidelines.
Many people who opt for this program find it incredibly difficult to stay within the set boundaries. Many people fail and go back to jail. Fortunately, others have managed to find success with the program. The program teaches its members that the choices they have made have caused them to land in jail. It also teaches them that they are capable of changing their lives for the better by making better decisions.
Joey Diaz, a successful graduate of the program, credits the judge and the many officers who helped him along the way with his success. "I know what's kept me clean this year." Diaz is now in school to become a drug counselor and regularly attends AA meetings.
Alfred Adams is another success story for drug court. Drugs controlled his life for over 28 years, yet he still managed to raise a family and hold down a job. His first experience with drug court was not good. He found the program too difficult, but he later returned. "After thirty days of being clean, I realized it wasn't so bad," commented Adams. Now Adams runs his own lawn service.
It appears that drug court and the men and women who supervise this program have had a positive effect on many of its members. Drug court may be an excellent option for drug addicts who find themselves in court for their behavior and addictions.
