Class-Action Lawsuit Filed Against Kia

December 27, 2002

A Pennsylvania judge approved a class-action lawsuit last week alleging automobile maker Kia sells its Sephia model with defective brakes. According to the suit, the Kia Sephia's brakes are built with a design defect, which causes them to repeatedly wear out. The lawsuit was filed by Shamell Samuel-Bassett who claims she required five brake jobs in just 17,000 miles. The Federal judge will allow Bassett to sue Kia on behalf of 10,000 Pennsylvanians who currently own the Sephia model. Nearly 200,000 were sold in the United States between 1995 and 2001.
