The Pros and Cons of Viagra

Viagra has had much success since its arrival into the medical marketplace three years ago. Many men have found that Viagra gives their sexual relationship the added boost that it was previously missing. Some women, however, are complaining about the drug. These women see Viagra as the catalyst for their husbands' affairs. The drug, which was designed and created to help men sustain an erection, does not cause women to experience a renewed sex drive. It does, however, motivate many men to desire more sexual contact. According to these women, their partners choose to have affairs with other, more willing partners.
In addition to this problem, many women are concerned that younger men are taking the drug for enhanced sexual performance and not using the drug for its intended purpose.
Viagra was created to treat erectile dysfunction, primarily in older men or men who have had serious medical conditions that might prevent them from getting and maintaining an erection. Although many men in these two categories do take Viagra, the drug is seeing increased popularity with men of all ages and medical backgrounds.
There has been an increase in the number of divorces in the United States, and several of them are related to Viagra. There are several cases of "men taking Viagra, but their wives were no longer interested in sex. And now a lot of middle-aged women are having affairs with older men who were impotent before there was Viagra," states Dominic Barbara, a New York attorney.
Sex therapists believe that Viagra is a good tool for previously impotent men, but also state that good communication between partners is essential for the drug to be a positive part of their relationship. "So much of sex is a dance of intimacy. It is about exchanges of love and tenderness and body language," comments Robert Kolodny, the author of Heterosexuality.
Proper use of the drug, based on a doctor's evaluation and recommendation, in addition to good communication between partners are the keys to success. Viagra has been a benefit to millions of relationships, but for some, it has been the beginning of the end of relationships.
