The results of a federally-funded study were recently announced by the Society for Research in Child Development. The results indicate that the more time children spend in daycare, the more aggressive they are by the time they reach kindergarten. The study included over 1,300 children from many different settings ranging from small preschools to large daycare centers.
The average child in the study spent approximately 25 hours in daycare. Of the children in daycare for over 30 hours a week, 17% were considered aggressive toward other children. Only 6% of the children in daycare for less than 10 hours a week were considered aggressive by their caregivers and teachers.
