Ford Hiring Prominent Advisors

July 5, 2001

Ford Motor Company is beefing up its Washington, D.C. office in anticipation of further legal wrangling over the safety of the Ford Explorer. After Congressional hearings last month in which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hinted that it might open an official investigation into Ford's popular SUV, the company hired former NHTSA chief Sue Bailey and former National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) head James Hall as advisors.

Bailey, a clinical psychologist, is expected to advise Ford on the public affairs aspects of the investigation. Hall is an attorney hired to evaluate the company's system used to detect safety problems with its vehicles. Neither Hall nor Bailey would comment on their compensation.
