Court Awards $4.8 Million in Medical Malpractice Case

A Pinellas County woman was awarded $4.8 million for a mistake made at Jacksonville's Mayo Clinic. The jury found Dr. Bruce Pearson negligent for performing a biopsy on Lisa Gabrelcik's neck. The mistake caused Ms. Gabrelcik permanent nerve damage, as well as problems speaking and swallowing. A Mayo Clinic spokesperson said that the clinic plans to appeal the decision.
