Firestone attorneys have settled 40% of the lawsuits filed against the company alleging that the Firestone Wilderness AT and ATX tires are defective. At least two hundred lawsuits have been settled and Firestone is working feverishly to settle more. In all, the company is facing over 500 personal injury lawsuits and nearly 100 class action product liability claims.
Many of the settlements involve victims or their families receiving tax-free monthly payments for the duration of their lives. All the settlement terms are confidential.
Bridgestone/Firestone recalled nearly seven million tires produced at its Decatur, Illinois plant. To date, none of the cases involving the recalled tires have gone to trial.
Many of the lawsuits also involve the Ford Explorer. Citing safety concerns, Ford unilaterally decided to replace the 13 million Firestone tires currently on its vehicles.
