A British scientist recently presented the results of several studies that found cellular phones increase the processing speed of the brain, causing damage and possibly leading to brain cancer. These studies confirmed scientists' fears that radiation emitted from mobile phones causes damaging chemical reactions within the body. Swedish and Swiss scientists also released information indicating that cellular phone radiation disturbs sleep patterns.
Swedish professors found that individuals who used analog cellular phones for several years were at an increased risk of developing brain cancer. However, some scientists question the importance of the findings. The previous generation of mobile phones often were mounted in cars and emitted signals continuously. Newer digital phones emit much less radiation.
The Chief of Radiation and Cancer at the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research recently told an international health conference that, although more research is needed, any potential health threat from cellular phone use is likely small.
