On September 3, 2001 the Greyhound Bus Company suspended all operations nationwide after one of its buses crashed on Interstate 24 outside of Manchester, Tennessee. Damir Igric, a 29-year-old Croatian immigrant, slit the throat of the driver, causing the bus to careen out of control. The FBI is investigating the accident, however it is not believed to be connected to the September 11th Attack on America.
Officials report that the assailant and five passengers were killed in the accident. The bus was headed from Chicago to Orlando, Florida. Greyhound ordered over 2,000 buses off the road until the situation was brought under control. Nationwide bus service resumed after a disruption of over seven hours.
