A 62-year-old woman, who broke her left hip when a dog tried to attack her, settled a lawsuit against the dog's owner in September of 2001. Anna Rischer was walking her own dog in the Bronx when the defendant's dog, a small, mixed breed, began chasing her. While trying to escape, Rischer became wrapped in her own dog's leash and fell, fracturing her hip.
Rischer claimed that the dog had shown aggression in the past. Rischer's injuries eventually led to a total hip replacement. She received $750,000 in the settlement.
