Attorneys representing the Country of Spain recently decided to proceed with a lawsuit against Baxter International after the Spanish Health Ministry concluded that there was a distinct connection between the deaths of eleven kidney patients and the use of the now recalled Baxter dialyzer. The device was recalled last month after Baxter acknowledged that a fluid used in the manufacturing process may have contributed to over 51 deaths worldwide.
Attorneys filed the lawsuit alleging breach of contract and say they will ask for a "considerable amount of money." Baxter filters may also be responsible for several deaths in Taiwan, Colombia, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Texas, and Nebraska.
