DaimlerChrysler Ordered to Pay $20 Million in Tire Case

November 30, 2001

A jury recently concluded that DaimlerChrysler was responsible for the death of a woman who was killed in an auto accident on a New Jersey highway in 1998. Annette Boryszewski, 38, was driving her three children in a Plymouth Voyager minivan when a wayward tire slammed into the van's roof and windshield. Annette Boryszewski was killed on impact. The tire had fallen off of a Jeep Wrangler traveling in the opposite direction.

DaimlerChrysler, which will appeal the $20 million verdict, claims that it is not at fault because the Wrangler's tires were improperly rotated at a Mobil station days before the accident. DaimlerChrysler is the only remaining defendant in the case, as the family settled with the owner of the Wrangler and Exxon Mobil before the trial began.
