Power Windows

Power windows installed on U.S. automobiles may pose a serious safety risk to young children. Often packing up to 80 pounds of force, power windows have been blamed for dozens of deaths since 1993. Children, especially infants, may strangle themselves by unknowingly hitting a power window switch when leaning out of an automobile.

Numerous public interest organizations, including the Consumer Federation of America and Kids and Cars, are asking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to require all U.S. automakers to install safer power windows. European and Japanese automakers already fit models with safer switches. Kids and Cars, which is currently running public service announcements about the issue, is asking for the installation of enhanced windows that automatically stop if something is detected in the way.

If you have been injured by a power window, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
