Depacon / Valproate Sodium

Depacon, also known as valproate sodium, is an anticonvulsant indicated in the treatment of certain types of seizures related to epilepsy. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1997, Depacon is made by Abbott Laboratories.

Potential side effects of Depacon include, but may not be limited to, abdominal or stomach cramps (mild); unusual weight loss or gain; diarrhea; nausea; hair loss; indigestion; loss of appetite and trembling of hands and arms.

Hepatic failure resulting in death has been linked to Depacon. The Federal Government's Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee has also received reports of birth defects, including spina bifida, among Depacon users. Cases of pancreatitis have also been reported in adults and children taking the medication.

See your doctor if you have experienced serious health problems after receiving Depacon. In addition, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
