Salmonella

Salmonella bacterium is a one-celled organism that cannot be seen, touched or tasted. It is commonly found in the intestinal tract and feces of livestock, poultry, dogs, cats, rats, and other warm blooded animals. Therefore, eggs, milk, and all raw foods produced by animals may carry salmonella. There are over 2,000 different strands of salmonella bacteria. The two most common strands are Salmonella Serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella Serotype Enteritidis.

Salmonella causes the most common foodborne illness: Salmonellosis. Salmonellosis is contracted when a person consumes food contaminated with the bacteria. Food may look and smell normal, yet still be infected with Salmonella. Person to person transmission may also occur. Salmonellosis exhibits flu-like symptoms including, but not limited to, diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Symptoms usually begin 12-72 hours after infection, and typically last 4-7 days.

See your doctor if you have experienced serious health problems because of exposure to salmonella. In addition, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
