The liver is located on the right side of the abdomen. While responsible for over 500 bodily functions, two of its most important roles include the production of Bile (which digests fat) and glucose storage. The liver also helps the body process and eliminate toxic substances such as alcohol and drugs. While the liver is unique in that it can regenerate itself if partially damaged, prolonged abuse or severe damage can doom the ability of the liver to perform its life sustaining role. The use of some prescription drugs has been shown to impair the liver's ability to perform, leading to a possible liver disorder and liver problems in adults and children.
