Demyelination: Overview

Demyelination is a condition characterized by damage or deterioration of the myelin casing that protects human nerves. Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and related disorders may cause demyelination. During early childhood, metabolic disorders can affect the development of myelin. Certain medications, such as the arthritis drugs Remicade and Enbrel, may also harm myelin.
