Acne & Other Skin Disorder Drugs: Overview

Acne is a sebaceous gland disorder that affects the surface of the skin. The condition is common in teenagers but can occur at any age. Acne occurs when oil that is produced under the surface of the skin cannot escape normally through hair follicles. As a result, the oil accumulates under the skin and forms a pimple. While good hygiene can go a long way in controlling excess oil, some acne sufferers need the help of prescription antibiotics and topical solutions. However, particularly stubborn cases of deep acne may require the use of powerful drugs such as Accutane.

There are various drugs and therapies available to treat many other skin disorders, including, but not limited to, psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema.
