Dialysis: Overview
Kidney dialysis machines perform some functions of the kidneys. People whose kidneys no longer function rely on dialysis to stay alive.
A recent report found that many dialysis clinics are understaffed. Such understaffing may lead to the spread of the hepatitis C virus. Many dialysis users are infected with hepatitis C. The disease is easily spread in the dialysis environment unless certain sanitary precautions are followed. Understaffed clinics may forgo such precautions.
