Growth Hormone Drugs: Overview
The pituitary gland produces human growth hormone. This substance stimulates growth in children. Some children do not produce sufficient amounts of growth hormone and thus do not developed normally. Other children who suffer from kidney disease and Turner's disease may also exhibit abnormal growth patterns.
Growth hormone drugs are synthetic versions of human growth hormone and may be given to these children to promote growth. In addition, some AIDS patients receive synthetic growth hormone drugs to combat weight loss.
