Anti-Protozoal Drugs: Overview
Parasites can cause a wide variety of illnesses ranging from malaria to African sleeping sickness to pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP). Individuals with weakened immune systems and those who have recently undergone organ transplantation are usually at an increased risk of developing illnesses caused by parasites.
Parasitic infections can be caused by drinking water, eating food, or coming into contact with fecal matter contaminated with parasites. Anti-parasitic and anti-protozoal drugs are used to prevent and treat parasitic infections.
