
The lungs and associated airways are part of the body's respiratory system. The primary function of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the lungs, transfer it to the blood, and expel carbon dioxide. Air is inhaled through the nose and mouth, where it travels down the throat and into the trachea. The trachea is a large airway which splits into two smaller airways leading to the lungs.
