Lupus: Overview

Lupus is a type of autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack otherwise healthy tissue and cells. The disease and its severity vary widely from person to person. Mild cases of Lupus generally cause fever, rash, arthritis, headaches, sensitivity to sunlight, and minor heart or lung damage. More severe cases of Lupus can result in fluid buildup around certain organs, kidney failure, reduced white blood cells, and brain dysfunction. The disease can be life threatening if not treated with care.
