Arthritis is a condition that is characterized by a painful and sometimes debilitating inflammation of the joints. One type of arthritis is caused by infection, however, the cause of the other type, rheumatoid arthritis, remains uncertain. The inflamed joints caused by arthritis may be painful, tender, and warm to the touch.
Over forty million people are afflicted with arthritis in the United States, with women sufferers far outnumbering men.
