Polyuria may occur in people suffering from diabetes. When blood glucose levels rise, glucose escapes through the urine. The kidneys excrete water in order to dilute the glucose. This excess water excretion causes a person to urinate more frequently than normal. Frequent urination is known as Polyuria.
Excessive urination experienced with polyuria often leads to polydipsia, or excessive thirst. The water lost during urination causes the person suffering from polyuria to become thirsty.
