Rhabdomyolysis

Rhabdomyolysis is a life-threatening condition that results from myositis, a condition which destroys muscle cells causing pain, particularly in the calves and lower back. The condition can become so severe that it leads to kidney failure. Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include, but may not be limited to, muscle pain, weakness, tenderness, fever, dark urine, nausea, and vomiting.

Baycol, a popular cholesterol-reducing drug manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, may cause rhabdomyolysis. Baycol was recently removed from the market because of its association with this dangerous condition. All statin drugs, including Mevacor (lovastatin), Pravachol (pravastatin), Zocor (simvastatin), Lescol (fluvastatin), and Lipitor (atorvastatin) have been associated with rhabdomyolysis.

See your doctor if you have experienced symptoms associated with rhabdomyolysis or if you require rhabdomyolysis treatment. In addition, if you have taken Baycol or another cholesterol reducing drug, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
