Pseudomonas Infections: Overview

Pseudomonas infections are caused by rare, yet fatal, pseudomonas bacteria. Mainly nosocomial, the bacteria attack patients with depressed immune systems. Pseudomonas can infect an individual's blood, heart valves, eyes, ears, lungs, skin, and bones. Infections are usually severe. Symptoms include, but may not be limited to, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sepsis, pharyngitis, ulcers in the eye, and a purple-black rash. Without proper treatment, an overpowering pseudomonas infection can cause shock and death.

Recently, Japan's Olympus Optical Co. announced the recall of more than 14,000 bronchoscopes after over 100 patients who had undergone a bronchoscopy at Johns Hopkins Hospital tested positive for the pseudomonas bacteria.

See your doctor if you believe that your health has been severely impacted by a pseudomonas infection. In addition, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
