
Colchicine is often used to treat the symptoms of gout. The drug does not cure gout, rather, Colchicine acts to reduce the swelling and inflammation associated with the condition. Colchicine may be administered orally or through an IV.
In December 2000 Phyne Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Colchicine, recalled certain batches of the drug after Phyne discovered that the batches were too potent. The recalled batches include lot number 1EC9300. At least three people have been hospitalized after taking the recalled batches.
