Serostim: Overview

Serostim is a human growth hormone given to AIDS patients to treat weight loss. Serono Inc. manufactures the drug.

In January 2001 Serono Inc. announced that a substance purporting to be Serostim had been sold in at least seven states including California, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Florida and Missouri and possibly nationwide. The counterfeit Serostim can be dangerous if taken by unsuspecting AIDS patients. The fake Serostim has the lot number MNK612A or MNH605A and an expiration date of 08/02. While the actual drug has the same lot number, its expiration date is 08/01. Additionally, the real Serostim has a vial of diluent bearing the lot number 99H124 while the fake diluent has a lot number 99h124. Use of the fake product can cause skin irritation and redness at the point of injection. The FDA notes that use of counterfeit Serostim will not help the AIDS patient's condition improve.

See your doctor if you have experienced serious side effects associated with Serostim. In addition, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
