Mitsubishi Montero: Overview
Consumer Reports magazine recently gave the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited its "not acceptable" rating. The magazine found that the 2001 model of the popular SUV "tipped severely on two wheels at 37 miles per hour."
Mitsubishi blasted Consumer Report's testing criteria, accusing the magazine of deviating from industry procedures and standards. Consumer Reports insists that it followed proper testing procedures and emphasized that over the past 13 years, only a handful of other vehicles have received a "not acceptable" rating. These vehicles include the 1996 Isuzu Trooper, 1996 Acura SLX and the infamous 1988 Suzuki Samurai. "If you are shopping for an SUV, we advise you not to buy the 2001 Montero Limited until the safety problem has been corrected," the magazine said.
The "not acceptable" rating does not apply to the Montero Sport or Montero XLS.
