Wireless Phones

Since the popularity of wireless phones skyrocketed in the early 1990's, over 115 million Americans have purchased the devices. While wireless phones (also known as cell or mobile phones) are extremely convenient and have fundamentally changed the way we communicate, they also raise some interesting safety issues.

About 80% of wireless phone users admit to using the devices while driving. A study released by the University of North Carolina's Highway Safety Research Center estimated that annually, 284,000 distracted drivers (such as those using wireless phones) are involved in serious automobile accidents.

There is also a vigorous debate concerning the possible link between wireless phone use and cancer. No long-term studies on the effects of such use have been conducted, and short-term studies have been inconclusive. The possible association between wireless phone use and cancer has spawned an entire industry devoted to products that purportedly block the harmful effects of wireless phones.

A report in the April 2004 edition of the magazine New Scientist suggests that mobile phone radiation may damage blood cells. According to the study, which researchers say is only theoretical, electromagnetic radiation may increase the force blood cells exert on one another, possibly leading to tissue damage.

If you have been injured because of someone's careless use of a wireless phone, or if you have been diagnosed with cancer that you suspect may have been caused by wireless phone use, it may be important to contact an attorney who can help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
