The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Evenflo Discovery infant car seats after receiving several reports alleging the carriers come apart during an accident. According to the NHTSA, two babies died when their Evenflo car seats detached from their base during a car wreck. The safety agency has received seven reports of the seat detaching. Along with the two fatalities, three other infants were injured due to the defect.
Ohio-based Evenflo Company Inc. has sold an estimated 2.5 million seats nationwide. A spokesperson for Evenflo said the company will assist the NHTSA during its investigation but insisted there have never been problems with the seat model.
